About Us

Company Background

I/O Denim is a brand for individuals who consider themselves both fashionable and technology-forward. Anand and Gitanjali founded the company in 2012 with the goal of creating a premium American denim line that serves as both stylish and practical at an affordable price. The brother and sister duo are revolutionizing a stagnant industry by making it easier to “wear” your smartphone, as well as keeping everything from design to manufacturing of the denim line within the United States.

How We Got Started

After over a year and six different prototypes, the brand decided to take to Kickstarter to see if the concept would take off. The campaign started with a little video to demonstrate and explain the brand:

The Team

Anand Venkatrao – Chief Executive Officer

Anand Venkatrao - CEO

With a background in technology, Anand never considered a career in fashion until the idea of the I/O Pocket came to him after a near car accident on Interstate-35. He then knew he could do something new in the fashion industry, and the concept of I/O Denim quickly developed. In addition to I/O, he currently works in outside sales/web development for an electronic component company in Austin, TX. He graduated from Baylor University with a BBA in Entrepreneurship.

Gitanjali Venkatrao – Chief Operating Officer

Gitanjali went to Baylor University and received a BA in Fashion Merchandising and Entrepreneurship. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, FIDM, for a graduate program. She then worked for two top-tier denim companies in downtown Los Angeles. With her previous experience in denim, Anand approached her with the idea of creating a new type of American made denim line. Gitanjali currently resides in Los Angeles, also working in outsides sales for an electronic component company.
